Did you know if you buy a tube of lipstick in Europe, its composition and ingredients are different than a tube of THE SAME lipstick you would buy in the United States? That’s because Europe has banned hundreds of toxic substances from being used in cosmetic products that have not been banned in the United States. So, my question is, why are we in the United States being treated as second-class citizens?

The answer is multi-faceted, but one of the reasons is that many in the United States are not aware of all the toxic chemicals that are in their cosmetic products. Second, the last time the United States passed a major federal law to regulate the cosmetic industry was 1938! Currently, 80% of the products on the market place in the United States are not required to be tested for human safety. And third is that most of Europe has Universal Health Care, which forces the government to pay for diseases like cancer and women with fertility issues. In order to mitigate those costs, European governments are careful to ensure that companies are not profiting off of making people sick! They made the connection between toxic ingredients and disease many years ago!

Our skin is our largest organ! So why are we allowing the skin care and cosmetic industry to pollute our bodies with the products that other countries have banned? There are options. In the meantime, please be aware of the products you are putting on your skin as well as in your body.
